A businessman of Indian origin was on Thursday robbed of K2.5 million at his house in Mangochi.
Mangochi Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daudi told Malawi24 that the victim lmran Yusuf who is lndian but is currently residing at Kalonga village, Traditional Authority Mponda in the district was chatting with his family at the veranda of his house when five criminals attacked him.
The gang of five who were armed with Panga knives and axes ordered the victim to enter the house.
“The thugs demanded money from him, as a result they managed to get away with K2.5 million cash, Hp laptop and Samsung galaxy S4 mobile phone,” said Daudi.
Meanwhile, investigations are underway to arrest the robbers according to Daudi. If found they will be charged with robbery with violence which is contrary to section 301 of penal code.
Meanwhile the Police in the district are advising the general public not to keep such huge amount of money in their homes to avoid being robbed.
