Man on motorbike killed in crash
A 27 year-old motorcycle operator has died after being hit by a Malawi Defence Force vehicle in Dowa district.
Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Richard Kaponda has said that the man who was using an unregistered Lifa motorcycle and was not putting on a crash helmet, has been identified as Sikefa Kadakwinda.
According to Kaponda, the incident happened at Fandani village along Lilongwe-Salima districts road on Tuesday when the motor vehicle registration number MDF 2346 Land cruiser which was being driven by Kalimu Mabasi, a soldier, was coming from the direction of Salima heading to Lilongwe.
“Upon arrival at Fandani village near Chezi trading centre, the driver hit a motorcyclist who was coming from the opposite direction alone, and suddenly turned to the right without fully checking what was coming from the opposite direction,” Kaponda said.
The man sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Dowa District Hospital where he died while receiving treatment. Postmortem conducted at the hospital showed that he died due to head injuries.
The deceased hailed from Zamula village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa district.
Meanwhile, Police in Dowa are advising members of the general public to put on crash helmets when they are riding motorcycles to prevent such incidents.
