Six family members injured in accident

Six family members sustained injuries after a Ministry of Health (MoH) motor vehicle they were traveling in overturned on Sunday in Nkhotakota district.

The accident occurred at Ngwata village in the area of Senior Chief Mwadzama in the district.

road accidentThe victims, who are two males and four females, are members of Mr Msukwa’s family of Kapoka village, Traditional Authority Mwene Misuku in Chitipa district.

According to Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Williams Kaponda, the Mitsubishi Canter registration number 031MG 872 was being driven Madalitso Mapweleme and was ferrying a MoH official, together with his family, who is on transfer from Blantyre to Mzuzu.

“Upon reaching Ngwata village, the driver lost control of the motor vehicle and it overturned twice before coming to its rest,” said Kaponda.

One of the victims Chimwemwe Nyirongo sustained multiple fractures on both legs and arm and has since been referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.

The remaining victims, who sustained different injuries including fractures, bruises, and cuts, have been admitted at Nkhotakota district hospital.

The driver however escaped unhurt. He hails from Cham’bwinja village Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre.
