Police intercept minibus carrying 16 bags of Indian hemp

Police in Kasungu district over the weekend intercepted a minibus that was carrying 16 bags of Indian hemp.

The law enforcers also arrested three men who were found in the minibus.

cuffsThe three have been identified as 29 year-old Andrew Moshe, Noel Matimati, 25, and Harry Kadzandira aged 25. Police Public Relations Officer Harry Namwaza said the law enforcers got a tip on Sunday that there was a Minibus suspected to have carried the illicit drugs travelling from Shayona heading towards Chansato in the district.

“At round 1 am, police mounted a snap roadblock along Chansato-Shayona earth road where they managed to intercept the Minibus Nissan Vanette registration number BU 3907,” Namwaza said.

After searching the vehicle, the police found 16 bags of loose Cannabis sativa weighing 50Kg each.

The three suspects were arrested on the spot and they will answer charges of being found in possession of Indian hemp.

Meanwhile the bags of Indian will be taken to Chitedze Research Station for analysis.

Namati comes from Lolo village in the Traditional Authority Changantha in Thyolo district, Moshe comes from Chamthunya village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka district while Kadzandira comes from Misi village Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa district.
