Nominees to the 12 categories of the fifth edition of the Urban Music Party (UMP) Festival will be named in Lilongwe on Saturday 8th October, it has been confirmed.
Nominating artists for the categories ends on Monday 3rd October.
According to UMP Publicist Kimpho Loka, the nomination party slated for Saturday will take place at the Club Amazon in Lilongwe.
It is after the nominees are named that the voting will start up until 3rd November.
Artists Sangie, Bucci, Charisma and Classmates Music as well as DJ Maya and Nathan Tunes will show their skills at the party.
At the moment, the organizers have indicated that one category of Best Female Act has been added to the initial 11.
Other novelties on the list include a DJ Showdown for local DJs to showcase their talent at an event slated for Friday, 4th November.
“So far, confirmed deejays are Nathan Tunes and the 2016 Carlsberg Chill DJ Battle winner DJ Trick. A number of top radio DJs are expected to complete the line-up,” an update from UMP reads.
There will also be a Fashion Night and awards to outstanding members of the press who have made strides towards arts and entertainment in the country.
“Producers Nde’feyo Entertainment have unbundled the fashion show from the main festival event. On the eve of the UMP Awards, there will be a UMP Fashion night. This is an event where the crème de la crème of the fashion will converge to showcase their designs. Also on the menu for the night are the Media Awards, where UMP Fest will be rewarding excellence in the media fraternity as far as music is concerned.
“The UMP Fest plans to transform Game Complex Underground Car Park from just a car park to an exquisite arena befitting this red carpet event. Music performances will complement the Fashion showcase and Media award,” said Loka.
The big day will be on 6th November 2016 at the BAT Ground where the 2016 best of the best in Malawi Urban Music will be announced and awarded.
As Malawi24 reported, South Africa based Malawian Gemini Major and Popp Dogg will headline the performances and will be joined by a scintillating local cream of artists.
They include Nepman, Sonye, Martse, Sangie, Theo Thomson, Blaze, DNA, Bucci, Fredokiss, Daredevilz, Home Grown African, Charisma, Malinga Mafia, Phyzix, Dezert Eagle and others yet to be announced.
“There will also be an open mic session (up and coming artists to pay a nominal fee of MK5000 to step on stage for exposure) and a rap freestyle battle where last year’s winner Able is looking to defend the crown. Dance displays will also be featured on the day,” he said.
