Malawi’s songstress Zani Challe soldiers on with her mission to fly her country’s colours having been nominated in this year’s African Music Awards (Afrima).
The South African born artist makes the nomination list with her 2016 banger, Single Tonight, which features Nigerian reggae dancehall artist Patoranking. She will be sweating for honour in the Revelation of the Year award.
The full nominations list which has been revealed recently by the organisers indicate that Zani is the sole representative for Malawi.
The nomination has come two weeks after the regional nominations lists were uncovered without any Malawian artist appearing.
Chiphadzuwa cha Malawi faces competition from six other artists: Amine Aminux from Morocco, E.L from Ghana, Emtee from South Africa, Yamato Band from Tanzania, as well as Fals and Simi from Nigeria.
Voting for artists in all categories began on Monday through the Afrima website as indicated by newspapers across Africa.
The awards ceremony will take place in Lagos Nigeria on 6th November. An after party will wrap up the occasion after the awards are handed out. Malawi was in the last edition represented by Dan Kalima and Caribbean based DJ Blade Deep.
They all returned home empty handed. This year, Malawians will do anything to avoid a repetition of last year’s nightmare in Afrima by helping their sole representative claim the honour.
Tanzanian bongo flavour star, Diamond Platinumz, who was among last year’s biggest winners is also one of this year’s nominees.
He has received five nominations, thanks to his hit after hit behaviour.
Wow big up
