A 28 year-old man in Mwanza district has been arrested after he refused to seek medical help for his 4 year-old daughter, saying his faith will heal her.
Mwanza public relations officer Edwin Kaunda has confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Joseph Zalero.
He said the man who is a member of the Apostolic Church refused to take the critically ill child to hospital because his faith does not allow him to do so.
Zalero claimed that his church does not believe in medical care for sick people but rather in prayers.
After the issue was reported to police he was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charge of failing to provide the child with necessities
Meanwhile the police have urged parents to seek medical care when their children fall sick. Kaunda said denying children the chance to be treated at a hospital is not accepted in the country as it can endanger their right to life .
The law enforcers have also warned the general public that anyone found committing a similar offence will be punished accordingly.
