Police in Ntchisi district have arrested a 31 year-old man for hijacking a motorbike and wounding the owner.

Ntchisi police Public Relations Officer Gladson M’bumpha said the man, Martin Chinseu, attempted to steal a motorcycle worth K450,000 at Galamtsukwe village on Saturday.

M’bumpha said on the day of the incident the owner of the motorbike Gibson Sompho was travelling from Ntchisi Boma to Mwansambo.

ArrestedOn his way, he noticed three men who were walking on the road and he gave them a warning using the hooter but the three did not pave way for the motorcycle to pass through.

As Sompho was passing by the three, one of the suspects hit him with a big stone and he fell off the bike.

But some residents in the area saw what was happening and they went to help the victim.

The three men started running away but people managed to apprehend Chinseu and they also recovered the motorcycle.

The motorbike owner was taken to a hospital where he was treated as an out-patient.

Meanwhile, police are investigating to apprehend the suspects who ran away whereas Chinseu will answer the charge of robbery with violence.

Chinseu hails from Chimbalanga village T/A Kasakula in Ntchisi district.
