Police in Kasungu district have arrested a 36 year-old man suspected to have killed his wife and injured her grandmother after the two separated.
The suspect, Kasten Mwale has been arrested for hacking his wife using an axe and seriously injuring her grandmother.
According to the police, the wife Chimwemwe Kachedwa, 22, separated with the suspect following a marriage misunderstanding two months ago.
Kasungu Police deputy spokesperson Harry Namwaza said the couple resorted to discuss their misunderstandings on Saturday last week.
But later when the two women were escorting him, the suspect used an axe and hacked the wife on her head and seriously injured the grandmother.
The suspect is yet to appear in court to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of Malawi’ s penal code.
The deceased hailed from Chigambatula village, Traditional Authority (TA) Chikulamatambe in Kasungu district.
