Malawians have blasted government over its plan to block pornography websites in the country.

“Why don’t you work so much hard to stop corruption? Wasting time to ban porn, what for? This is a useless mater,’’ says one readers on a story Malawi24 published that the Malawi government has said it will ban pornography internet sites in the country.

Last week, Minister of Information and Civic Education Patricia Kaliati said children are not supposed to access nude materials on the internet.

“We will be having a software to protect children from accessing pornographic materials on the internet as a way to go by to ensure that they grow morally,” said Kaliati.

But Malawians who commented on Malawi24 website have received the news with anger.

Most of the readers kept arguing that this is a small problem that is not important now urging government to bring decisions which would rather help the ailing economy. Some of the readers however questioned how the government is going to go about this.

SP Vibes Spzo wrote: “Government running out of issues to look on since they are failing to fix some problems. Teenagers know already how to give h**d as am talking no. What if you can stop this and start looking on things that can stop these blackouts, water shortages and poor networks.’’

While Alpheo Chisi could only comment ‘’Hunger is coming! PLEASE block hunger’’.

David Piasse on taking his side on the story wrote: Watching pornographic videos is a choice not a chance, so whatever the government is planning to do is just a waste of resources. There are a thousand ways how anyone can get them. Except on Website. What government has to know is that not much of people watches them through Trending, people buy them on streets each and every day. So it’s a poor development to the government of Malawi. Do other things.’’

Malawi does not block or filter internet content, a development that has seen children below maturity age accessing pornographic materials without restrictions.

Recently, the government also indicated that it’s ganging up on measures meant to stop cybercrime.
