The National Library Service (NLS) has introduced fees for all people accessing its libraries in the country.
One of the NLS branches in Blantyre has already announced its user fees which will be introduced with effect from July 1, 2016.
According to a statement by the NLS Blantyre branch, adults who want to access the library’s services will have to pay K100 while children will be paying K150.
“This is to notify our valued clients that with effect from 01 July, daily library user fee will be introduced as follows: adults: K100 children: K50,” said the library in a statement.
The fees will be paid in addition to other services charges which the library says remain unchanged.

Those who know the struggling National Library goes through even in time of plenty will not insult the decision.
It is only students who appreciate the services of MNLS. Funding of this body is a shame and an indicator to how we value education. They are supposed to have branches in all districts but cant . Books are very expensive and they will end up with very old editions if the trend continues.
MNLS in an “invisible” investiment. It helps in educated manpower. There are many graduates who can testify having succeded in going to colleges because of this organisation. Indeed, even to some extent professionals use the services such as referrnce and reading atmosphere.
