The Midima court has sentenced a 22 year-old man to six years in prison with hard labour for robbery.

CourtLimbe Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Widson Nhlane identified the convict as Chikondi Ganizani Malunga.

“What happened is that on 15 January 2016 Malunga stole a cellphone and cash amounting to K27,000,” said Nhlane.

He added that after police investigations Malunga was arrested and charged with robbery which is contrary to section 301(2) of the penal code.

In court he pleaded not guilty but the state paraded witnesses and on Thursday magistrate Loyce Chirwa found the convict guilty of the offence.

Chirwa sentenced Malunga to six years imprisonment with hard labour.

Malunga hails from Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo.
