Malawi President Peter Mutharika has made a contribution of K20 million towards reconstruction of the library at Mzuzu University a day before he donated K7 Million to flood victims in the city.
Mutharika made the donation on Wednesday upon touring the university’s library which was gutted by fire in December last year. In his remarks, Mutharika said the students will soon have a modern library.

“My government will fully lead the efforts to reconstruct, refurbish and restock the damaged library so that the academic community at Mzuni returns to their normal life for academic success. I therefore call upon other stakeholders to join the bandwagon and contribute what they can afford towards this good cause,” said Mutharika.
Over 45,000 text books, study materials, 100 computers and other leaning materials were destroyed in the fire accident.
The reconstruction of the library started in January this year and is expected to end after two years.
Currently, the university’s hall has been converted into a library.
