Speaking after meeting President Peter Mutharika, Malawi Red Cross Society President Levison Changole said this year’s flag week will help in supporting people affected by the persistent dry spells in the past two growing seasons.

“We need a lot of money about to K200-300 million kwacha to help people with material things. To help a population that is in dire need of the help,” said Changole.

Changole further appealed to well-wishers to come up with strategies of helping hunger victims.

The development comes at a time when half of Malawi’s population is on the edge of hunger due to poor harvest in most parts of the country. Mutharika has since donated K1 million to help the society in achieving the goals of helping those in need of help.
