The nongovernmental organisation has introduced the initiative in order to tackle the barriers that girls face in accessing education and to reduce school dropout rates among girls.

The project will be facilitated by leading network provider in the country, Airtel.

According to Airtel Malawi Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Norah Chavula, the company has already started distributing free Airtel money cards to the beneficiaries in the country.

“We (Airtel) are just facilitating the initiative,” Chavula said

However Chavula was unable to give us the number of girls who will benefit in the project.

“No I cannot give you exact number of girls to benefit in this initiative, but save the children can,” she said.

Girls in the country dropout usually drop out of school due to poverty but some girls leave school in order to get married.
