Set on fire.

Malawi Police officers  in Kasungu district on Friday destroyed 40 bags of Indian hemp which were being kept at Kasungu Police Station and at Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court.

The operation took place at Chiwengo dumping site. Present at the dumping site were police officers as well as representatives from the Judiciary, district council and district health office.

Some of the Indian hemp burnt on this day was seized from various people whose cases have now been concluded at the courts.

Other bags belonged to some suspects who just dumped the illicit drugs and run away upon seeing police officers in their vicinity.

When cases of Indian hemp have been completed in court or the suspect has run away leaving the product behind, authorities are expected to destroy the bags.

This may be done by the court or police but other stakeholders are required to be present to be sure that the product has really been destroyed.
