South African Airways canceled Malawi flights.

Government has assured Malawians that the South African Airways (SAA) will resume flights to and from Lilongwe soon.

The South African Airways cancelled flights to and from Lilongwe on Friday due to change of category status of Kamuzu International Airport.

It was also reported that security concerns at the airport might have also led to the suspension.

But spokesperson for government Patricia Kaliati said Malawians should not worry as the operations will resume soon.

”We must not get worried as the suspension was temporary but the flights will resume soon,” said Kaliati.

She added that they were only waiting for the fire fighters from Blantyre and other quarters and the SAA will resume their operations.

After cancelling Friday’s flights, SAA said the cancellation was due to the change of category status and resultant conditions at the airport.

The company also suggested that it would resume the flights once airport authorities ensures compliance with requirements set out by regulating authorities.
