Member of Parliament (MP) for Mulanje south constituency Bon Kalindo has backed Speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya after Muslims in the country said he should step down.

Kalindo: Sees no reasons for Msowoya to step down.

The Islamic Commission for Justice and Freedom last week challenged Msowoya to resign as Speaker or Malawi Congress Party (MCP) vice president as he is failing to balance the two positions.

But Kalindo said that the speaker is doing his job perfectly and there is no need for him to resign. “He has done nothing wrong to be told to resign he does his work without taking sides,” said Kalindo.

He then urged other parliamentarians to stop making political statements in the house.

“There is a need to discuss development among others solutions to the hunger situation rather than making political statements which will not help Malawians,” he said. Kalindo further said that Members of Parliament (MP) should prioritise the needs of Malawians over politics.

The calls for Msowoya to resign came after MCP MP Jessie Kabwila used the Speaker’s official vehicle to run away from police officers who wanted to arrest her for sedition.
