…ordinary Passport pegged at K80,000
In what may pass as desperate efforts at fundraising by the DPP led government, Malwi24 has been informed that the country is considering hiking again passport fees.
According to information that is circulating, it is understood that the government of Malawi has instructed the Immigration Department to introduce new rates that one pays to have the travel document.
The information indicates that the ordinary passport which takes 21 days to be processed will now be accessed at K80,000. It moves from K48,000.
The express passport which takes 5 days to be processed is said to have its fee hiked to K110,000 from its current fee of K58,000.
The emergency passport that only takes two days to be processed will now be acquired at a fee of K150,000. It currently is at K85,000.
Malawi24 efforts to get confirmation from the department of Immigration were futile as our calls were not picked.
The hike, if it is effected will come only after the last hike in 2014. It will also come at a time that Malawians are complaining under Mutharika’s lack of economic insight.
