MBS issued the statement through it’s Facebook Page saying the suspension has been executed due to non compliance with hygiene standard at the Lilongwe plant.

“The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has with immediate effect suspended production and distribution of Chibuku shake shake opaque beer for Lilongwe plant due to non compliance with hygiene standard” reads the statement.

Meanwhile, there were mixed reactions on the suspension from those who commented on the post by MSB.

Chuma Abambo Matabwa, who hailed the suspension, was shocked that “such a big company as Chibuku could fail to comply with standards”

On his part, Chancy Kachingwe said the suspension will force people to start drinking sachets liquor

“Nde tizimwa chani? kufuna kutipha ndi masacheti eti???” he wrote.

CPL were yet to comment on the suspension as of press time. CPL is the second largest company after Bowler Beverages Limited last year to have been suspended by MSB over hygienic concerns.

CPL is subsidiary of Malawi Beverages Limited, a company owned by SABMiller Africa.
