The Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has announced that they have started registering football teams which are willing to take part in this year’s Presidential Initiative on Sports football cup.
Malawi’s FA competitions manager Gomegzani Zakazaka has confirmed the development saying only 32 teams will be allowed to register at the regional levels as they have already started a bit late.
“Only 32 teams on the regional levels will be allowed to take part in this year’s Presidential Cup 2016 edition as the cup has already started a bit late so we have to run with this year’s Fam football calendar year,” said Zakazaka.
Zakazaka added that the cup will start on March 5 and it will be the first cup that will roll into action among the four cups that will be played this year.
In 2014 the tournament was postponed after Fam diverted K22 million of the K60 million Presidential Cup allocation towards the Flames’ expenses in the World cup qualifying match against Nigeria.
Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) FC are the current cup holders. They won the Cup in 2013 after beating Silver Strikers 9 -8 in post-match penalties.
