As controversy continues in Malawi opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), the party’s vice president Iqbar Omar has dragged party president Atupele Muluzi to court for him to prove claims that Omar was forming parallel structures.

Confirming the development, Omar said he wants Muluzi to prove in court that the embattled vice president has been establishing parallel structures in the party and that he once sent thugs to attack Muluzi at his residence.

“First of all that’s my right to have justice at hand on the allegations that have been made against me, that I have been forming parallel structures in the party, that I was campaigning against him and was telling chiefs not to vote for him.

“I also want him to prove that I was sending thugs to his house to attack him. To me I think this is rubbish because I am not a thug so I will not talk much because everything has been handed over to my lawyers,” said Omar.

Omar further urged Muluzi not to take the party apart arguing that his governance is making the party to lose its popularity in Malawi.

Omar also maintained that he is still the party’s vice President since he was elected at the party’s convention.
