“I can confirm that we will be engaging Phiri, this is because we want him to assist us to stay in the league,” said the source who is a part of the management for Mzuni FC, the only team that represents a tertiary education institution in the league.

The source told Malawi24 that Phiri will be serving as a Technical Director.

“We believe that with his experience, he will assist us to stay in the league. It is so hard to bounce back into the league and that is why we do not want to be booted out of the league,” the source told Malawi24.

Phiri who is aged 61 had been Coaching a South African Club Free State Stars after his firing from the Flames top job position. However, his record at the Club was not so impressive that he had to be shown the exit door in August.

Media reports quoted Phiri as crying after the sacking at Free State Stars, he claimed it was a harsh decision

Mzuni FC currently pitches on position 12, just one stop above the relegation zone. It tallies on 20 points with Dedza Young Soccer.
