Police  Nkhotakota district are keeping in a Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldier for being found possessing Indian hemp found in his two travelling bags.

According to Nkhotakota police relations officer, Sub-Inspector, Williams Kaponda, the suspect has been identified as Andrew Matochi, 34 for Kamuzu barracks.

Kaponda said the suspect got nabbed on Monday, 19 October at a Kaombe checking point as he was driving on the Dwanga – Lilongwe road in a Saloon car, registration number IT 6496.

He said police officers who were on duty at this checking point, found the suspect’s two, travelling bags filled to the capacity with the Indian hemp. Upon being asked as to where he got the hemps, Matochi failed to defend himself a development that was followed by his arrest.

Andrew Matochi who hails from Kanyenda village in the district, will soon appear before court to answer charge of possessing Chamba illigally.

I can see very well that 3quarters of the comments are against police but one thing you should bear in mind is that nobody is above the law.others are just talking out of anger maybe coz they were once arrested by police for some offences so they police as their enemy.others are saying “alonda” but still more the government gave powers,privileges & immunities of a police officer which includes arresting anybody who violates the law.so to all those who see police as an enemy pliz be civilized for once,coz other comments are coming out of ignorance.And I can also sense from some comments about who is more powerful between police & mdf,but let me tell you these people they work hand in hand bcoz their aim is make sure that malawi should be a better place to be.finally let the law take its course on this soldier for no one is above the law!!!
