Malawi soldier arrested for possessing chamba

Police  Nkhotakota district are keeping in a Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldier for being found possessing Indian hemp found in his two travelling bags.

According to Nkhotakota police relations officer, Sub-Inspector, Williams Kaponda, the suspect has been identified as Andrew Matochi, 34 for Kamuzu barracks.

Kaponda said the suspect got nabbed on Monday, 19 October at a Kaombe checking point as he was driving on the Dwanga – Lilongwe road in a Saloon car, registration number IT 6496.

He said police officers who were on duty at this checking point, found the suspect’s two, travelling bags filled to the capacity with the Indian hemp. Upon being asked as to where he got the hemps, Matochi failed to defend himself a development that was followed by his arrest.

Andrew Matochi who hails from Kanyenda village in the district, will soon appear before court to answer charge of possessing Chamba illigally.
