65Kgs of marijuana lands man in police custody

Malawi Police in Nkhotakota district yesterday arrested a 35 year old man for allegedly being found in possession of 65Kgs of Indian hemp.

According to Nkhotakota police spokesperson Williams Kaponda, the suspect, John Gunde was nabbed last night at Kaombe road block after police searched the bus he was travelling in.

arrested “The illicit drug was found concealed in a woven basket commonly used to carry tomatoes and in a green sack bag covered in a black jumbo.

“The vigilant officers upon thoroughly searching discovered the hemp and let the passengers come aboard. Professionally, we identified the suspect through the bus conductor,” Kaponda said.

He said the suspect was travelling to Blantyre from Dwangwa.

Nkhotakota is one of the districts in the country where Indian hemp is highly cultivated.

Gunde hails from Chimbeya village, Traditional Authority Mpando in Ntcheu and is expected to appear before court soon.
