7 Million netted in Malawi-Tz match

The Malawi national football team world cup preliminary round match against Tanzania at Kamuzu stadium raised 7 million kwacha as gate revenue collection, Malawi24 has learnt.

The match was one of the most lowest patronized ones,something which pundits argued was because the Flames were coming from a 2 nil loss i the first leg with the neighbors.

Malawi’s FA general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda was quoted telling the media Malawi that part of the cash will be used to pay service providers at the match.

“What it means is that after paying for some services offered during the game, we will not remain with much money,” Nyirenda said.

The FA’s GS added that they printed 22 000 and only a few tickets were sold out.

Nyirenda further said that the 2-0 flames lose to Tanzania on Wednesday in Tanzania is one of the reason the match registered a low patronage.

“The loss deflated the morale among most Malawians, who felt the battle had already been lost,” Nyirenda was quoted by one of Malawi’s daily.

The Malawi national team won the match by a goal to nil but Tanzania advanced to the second round of the world cup qualifiers matches and will now face Algeria in the second round of the world cup preliminary qualifying round.
