Rocked with Ipadgate which has thrown his dubious ministry into further disrepute, Malawi’s controversial self-acclaimed Prophet Mr. Shepherd Bushiri has hired murder suspect Ralph Kasambara as his lawyer.

Kasambara is currently one foot out of prison owing to his association to the Cashgate scandal and being implicated in the target on the life of former budget director Paul Mphwiyo whose shooting opened a can of worms that saw the end of Joyce Banda’s presidency.

In a message to one of our reporters, Kasambara threatened to drag Malawi24 to court if this publication did not take down an article which had raised questions into the credibility of AFRICCI.

AFFRICI, which alleges to be an organisation of church leaders, reportedly appointed the self-anointed man of god from Malawi as its chair. But Malawi24 established that Catherine Naava Nabagesera, AFRICCI’s Secretary General who affirmed Bushiri’s appointment, is a convicted extortionist involved in shoddy dealings likely to put the credibility into questions.

“We have been consulted by Major Shepherd Bushiri (“our client”) with instructions to claim damages and injunction. Our instructions are that you maliciously published online articles alleging that AFRICCI is not registered let alone in existence” reads a Facebook message by the lawyer who is also answering K785 million money laundering charges.

Kasambara who was also arrested during the Bingu wa Mutharika regime on human abduction and torture charges, further stated: “As a result of such obnoxious, unprofessional online publications our client’s clientele base has drastically dwindled.  Further, our client has been brought to ridicule, contempt and branded as a liar and false prophet.”

Kasambara has been defending Bushiri recently through sets of Facebook posts in the wake of false claims by the man many have called a conman, Bushiri, that he had captured a photo of a child in the spiritual realm.

Efforts to get Kasambara’s views who was once labelled a mafia by former President Bingu wa Mutharika proved futile as he had not yet responded to our questionnaire which he had requested. He also stopped picking our phone calls as we continued with our attempts to follow him on the topic.

Meanwhile a Facebook page managed by Bushiri has threatened with death all the people who have criticised him on the fake prophecy. Using some verses from the Bible in which he seeks to shut up people from holding him to account, Bushiri has said that people who have criticised him will be met by death.

Commentators have said that the association between Bushiri and some people who have ever been called mafias and are not new in being associated with abduction, torture and conspiring to murder might really bring about the death of Bushiri’s critics.

“It will not be the Holy Spirit that will kill Bushiri’s critics, it is the mafias he is associating with that will do the work,” said a source that did not want to be named in fear of his life.

Kasambara has since gone on Facebook threatening to deal with people who are critical of him on Facebook. He has said he will follow with them to everywhere to deal with them, even on the lake.

    Our chief correspondent, Maynard Chizavare attended the service in anticipation of the response the man of God would make regarding the leaked video.
