Two men have drowned in Lake Malombe after the canoe they were using capsized.
Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer Rodrick Maida identified the two as James Andiotchi 28, and Idana Ajibu, 19.
Maida said the two men went into the lake at Chisawa fishing dock on Saturday in order to fish but due to strong winds the men experienced in the course of fishing, their canoe capsized.
They tried to swim to the shore but failed to make it as they were tired due to long distance.
“The following day the community was suspicious because the two men didn’t return from the lake hence they launched a search but did not find them or their bodies,” said Maida.
But on Monday mutilated dead bodies of the two fishermen were found floating on the lake whilst other parts were believed to have been eaten by crocodiles, according to Maida.
Postmortem conducted at Ukalanga Health Centre revealed that they died due to suffocation.
James hailed from Bolera village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi while Idana hailed from Chisawa village, Traditional Authority Chimwala in Mangochi.

My appeal to all fishermen is that you should not go fishing whilst drunk, especially this rainy season. Use unrotten canues.
