Malawi President Peter Mutharika has condoled former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki following the death of his wife Lucy Kibaki.
Former Kenyan First Lady Lucy Muthoni Kibaki, 76, died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment in Bupa Cromwell Hospital, in London.
Mutharika joined other African leaders in sympathizing with the Kibaki family for their loss.
The Malawi leader described the late Lucy as one of Africa’s prominent personalities who played a huge role in transforming many lives.
“It is with great shock that Africa has today (Tuesday) received news of the demise of the former First Lady of Kenya, Lucy Kibaki, wife to the country’s third President Hon Mwai Kibaki,” wrote Mutharika on his Facebook page.
He added: “The First Lady and I join Former President Mwai Kibaki in mourning one of Kenya’s and Africa’s prominent personalities who played a huge role in transforming many lives. To my colleague President Uhuru Kenyatta and all Kenyans, Malawi mourns with you. May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace.”
