Bishop Medram Chirwa may have to put his pulpit sermons on hold, as Maula Prison has become his new address while he awaits the start of his murder case at the High Court.

Chirwa of Fountain of Victory Church has been remanded at Maula Prison pending the commencement of his case at the High Court over the suspected murder of an FDH Bank employee.

Chirwa appeared before Mkukula First Grade Magistrate’s Court after police brought the case in line with the legal requirement that an arrested person must appear in court within 48 hours.

Dowa Police prosecutor Ian Ntaba said police presented the case to comply with the requirement.

In his ruling, Magistrate Kondani Chinangwa said the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case and ordered Chirwa to remain in custody at Maula Prison.

Chirwa’s lawyer, Joseph Chiume, said he was satisfied with the procedure followed.

Chirwa is suspected of being involved in the murder of Tathokoza Salimu, an FDH Bank employee based in Dowa.
