Prison was supposed to take away Sean “Diddy” Combs’ freedom, but it appears money has opened another door.
Behind the bars, the music mogul is reportedly getting inmates to cook, clean, make his bed and even massage him, turning his 50-month sentence into a bizarre jailhouse luxury package.
According to NBC News, the 56-year-old music mogul, serving a 50-month sentence at Fort Dix in New Jersey for prostitution-related offences, has inmates making his bed, doing his laundry and cleaning his toilet before he uses it, the sources said.
“This is not some normal s— you see in jail. This is some rich s—,” one of the men said. “It looks crazy, but again, it’s Diddy.”
Multiple sources said Diddy uses contraband cellphones to scroll Instagram, including explicit photos an ex-girlfriend sends him, and has bought an antidepressant drug known in prison as “rem-roms” for its mood-boosting effects. On weekend nights, he reportedly drinks premium Hennessy smuggled in by guards.
“Hell yeah, I drank with him,” one inmate said.
His favourite meals curry chicken, pizza and empanadas are secretly cooked by inmates on makeshift heating elements. “After a while, I got tired of cooking. He started going to the Jamaicans,” one of his chefs said.
The privileges have cost him thousands of dollars a month, with the money channelled through commissary accounts of inmates doing the work.
Among his devices is a “jailbroken” tablet used to watch movies including Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the Netflix docuseries by his longtime rival 50 Cent.
His luck has not been all good. He spent time in solitary confinement after a fight with another inmate and was later kicked out of the prison’s coveted drug treatment programme.
A spokesperson for Diddy downplayed the report, saying the media has “characterised ordinary prison life as news.”
But one source summed it up: “He’s a billionaire. People are in awe of him. Money is power, especially behind bars.”
