October could bring financial pain for 298 education officers after they were removed from the September payroll.
The Ministry of Education has removed 298 teachers and officers from the September 2026 payroll after they failed to take part in a personnel audit and verification exercise.
The Department of Human Resource Management and Development (DHRMD) has been conducting a personnel audit of civil servants in recent months.
According to an internal memorandum Malawi24 has seen, the affected officers were removed from the payroll after failing to attend the personnel audit and verification exercise.
The ministry has since directed all affected officers to personally report to the DHRMD offices at Capital Hill in Lilongwe for verification.
The exercise has commenced from September 25 to 29, 2026, between 7:30am and 4:30pm each day.
Those affected have been instructed to bring original copies of their offer letters, promotion letters, certificates, national identity cards, PSR 19, confirmation letters and authority to teach.
The ministry has also directed directors, heads of institutions and education division managers to immediately notify the affected officers and ensure they comply with the directive.
