African countries are coming together to tackle the persistent barriers to climate finance for nations most affected by extreme weather. The 5th African Regional Conference on Loss and Damage takes place in Lilongwe from 25th to 27th March.
The three-day event will gather policymakers, civil society organizations, researchers, and community representatives from across the continent.
Delegates will focus on strategies to unlock sustainable funding and technical support for countries hit hardest by climate impacts.
Extreme floods, droughts, and storms have destroyed homes, livelihoods, and infrastructure, exposing gaps in preparedness and recovery.
Despite the creation of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), many nations struggle to access the resources needed to protect vulnerable communities.
The conference will also aim to amplify Africa’s voice in global climate negotiations, ensuring the continent’s priorities are recognized internationally.
Organizers hope the meeting will produce a communiqué and a regional roadmap to guide Africa’s future climate financing and resilience efforts.
