The Zomba District Council on Friday approved a K99 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year.
The budget is made up of central government transfers, locally generated revenue, donor funding, and allocations for personal emoluments.
Speaking after the budget presentation in the house, Council Chairperson, Baster Chirwa said the budget has been prepared in line with the guidelines provided by the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC)
According to Chirwa, in the budget , about Mk417.3Million is locally generated revenue , Mk45Billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and MK1. 2 Billion for Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme(CSEPWP)
In addition, the budget has also included the MK 3.4Billion Social Cash Transfer(SCT) programme, MK45, 7 Billion personal Emoluments, and MK3.6 Billion as sector funds.
In his remarks, Zomba District Commissioner Musandide Fredrick Misinjo said some of the key development projects to be implemented during the 2026/27 financial year include; construction of new council offices, bridges, and school blocks.
“We expect to do things differently this time around and by the end of the next financial year, we should be able to point at some tangible developments,” he said.
Misinjo assured that the council will in the coming financial year ensure all projects are implemented in time and completed.
