A faith-based organization, Passion Center, says it assists more than 5,000 patients each year through its Community Health Network (CHN) project.

Speaking at the organization’s headquarters in Zomba during the 15th anniversary celebration of the CHN project, Executive Director Saul Mateyu said the initiative continues to support patients in various ways.

Mateyu explained that, as a faith organization, Passion Center provides reading glasses to people with eye problems, offers counseling and first aid services, distributes wheelchairs, and encourages patients through the Word of God to strengthen their faith.

He also expressed gratitude to volunteers working under the CHN project in the area of Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba District and in Mangochi District for their dedication to serving patients in their communities.

According to Pastor Mateyu, introducing the Community Health Network project was a strategic decision aimed at guiding communities on disease prevention, including cholera, promoting first aid practices, encouraging timely hospital visits, and providing spiritual support through biblical teachings.

“We assist about 5,000 patients every year, and in the 15 years that we have been implementing the CHN project, we have helped more than 70,000 patients,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, Shepson Phiri, who represented the Chairperson of the Civil Society Organization Network (CSOs) in Zomba District and served as the guest of honor, praised Passion Center for complementing government efforts in the health sector.

He noted that the government cannot manage to reach every patient on its own.

Delivering remarks on behalf of volunteers working under the Community Health Network (CHN) project, MacFarlane Mina said that their collaboration with Passion Center has helped save many lives since the initiative began.

As part of the commemoration, Passion Center also presented mattresses as gifts to beneficiaries and blankets to its 144 volunteers who support the CHN project.
