Kondwani Nankhumwa, president of the People’s Development Party (PDP), has publicly conceded defeat in the 2025 presidential election, while affirming that his vision will continue.
Writing on his Facebook page today, Nankhumwa says they formed a party and participated in this year’s general elections with a mission to be a voice to the voiceless and provide an alternative, but the preliminary results from tally centres do not favour PDP.
“Like in every competition, there can only be one winner. Preliminary results from tally centres across the country indicate that PDP will not carry the crown in this Election,” reads Nankhumwa’s statement.
Nankhumwa, with his one-year-old party, further said they are determined to grow stronger and are targeting victory in 2030 to serve Malawians.
The PDP president has also highlighted that they will submit formal complaints to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) regarding the irregularities they have noted, stating that democracy must be safeguarded not only in victory but also in how setbacks are handled.
Nankhumwa is one of the candidates accumulating the fewest votes and has joined Phunziro Mvura, Adil Chilungo, Smart Swira, and Joyce Banda.
