Marking his 84th birthday today, former Malawian President Peter Mutharika has pledged a brighter future for the nation upon his potential re-election in September 2025.
Despite acknowledging current economic challenges, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president who was born on 18 July 1940, made the statement via his Facebook page. He expressed optimism, emphasizing faith and determination in achieving a better Malawi.
In addition to expressing profound thanks to God for another year of life, Mutharika stated that this birthday has allowed him to contemplate various issues, including the economic challenges the country is currently facing.
Mutharika said, “Despite these trials, I remain fiercely optimistic. I trust that God will grant us the strength to overcome and guide us through these difficult times as we unite to transform Malawi into a better nation. A better Malawi is coming in September 2025.
“Renewed in strength and filled with hope, I am confident that a brighter future for Malawi is on the horizon. Let us stand together, driven by faith and determination, to realize this vision.”
Mutharika who lost the 2020 fresh elections to Lazarus Chakwera, has repeatedly declared himself the last hope and solution to the current economic hardships.
