Malawi netball star Takondwa Lwazi announces Queens retirement

Malawi Queens player, Takondwa Lwazi, has retired from the Malawi National Netball Team.

Lwazi aged 31, announced her retirement this morning after the Queens played their last match at the tournament. It was also Lwazi’s 100th test cap. The Queens beat Tonga to finish on seventh position at the World Cup.

Lwazi was phenomenal for the Queens at the tournament with her intelligent passes and high energy levels. She earned a player of the match award in the Queens’ victory over Barbados.

The centre court player has been struggling with a knee problem but is expected to continue playing for her for her club, Blue Eagles.

This morning, the Queens beat Tonga 64 – 54 to finish seventh, lower than their sixth position at the 2019 World Cup in England.

Out of eight games played, the Queens won five and lost three, beating Tonga twice, Scotland, Fiji and Barbados and losing against England, Australia and Uganda.

The 10-day tournament ends today with the final between Australia and England from 6 pm.
