Music streaming platform Spotify has sidelined African countries including Malawi in its 2022 viral marketing campaign called Spotify Wrapped.

According to concerned musicians, the campaign which started in 2016 has been ignoring Africa despite the continent being rich in music talent.

One of the African Rappers King Teezy has expressed dissatisfaction with Spotify for shunning the continent.

“I am really big on exceptionalism, it’s very intentional and its very racist, there`s absolutely no sense in Spotify Wrapped being available in certain parts of the world but not parts of Africa or Africa in general so why there is SpotifyAfrica then,” said Teezy in a tweet.

Malawians have also been complaining on Twitter that Spotify has informed them that Spotify Wrapped is not available in Malawi or in their region.

The marketing campaign which is released annually allows Spotify users to view a compilation of data about their activity on the platform over the past year.

Spotify Wrapped is also used as a tool for marketing the platform on social media considering that millions of people share on their accounts.
