Malawi’s urban music giant Tay Grin has said his Maso Award victory in the best live act slot came effortlessly.
Writing on his Facebook page on Monday, the Nyau King as the musician is fondly known said he did not know that it is possible to be honoured in music without wooing voters.
“You mean it’s possible to win an award without sending people a Vote for Me link? Chifukwa ma Vote for me nde tawaona ife ma votes athu ali phee!!! kushomola ma votes ena (Others have been campaigning while I was guaranteed my votes without any effort)” he said.
In celebration of the effortless triumph the musician has dedicated the award to his fans for showing him love.
“This award is dedicated to all people of the kingdom, both young and old. You rallied and took the time to vote for this victory. I will keep it safe in the palace but know if you voted this award is yours, be proud.”
The recognition in question has taken his awards tally to 23 in his 18 years of producing music.
Grin boasts about both local and international awards. The list of his honours includes Channel O justAward for best collaboration.
