Vice President Saulos Chilima yesterday bought a poppy flower at K1.5 million as part of assisting soldiers who fought in world wars.
Chairperson for the Veteran and Ex-service League of Malawi (VELOM), Gen. Henry Odillo and some members of the League paid a visit to the Vice President’s Office at Capital Hill to sell the Chilima the second Poppy flower.
This came after President Lazarus Chakwera bought the first Poppy flower at K2 million when he inaugurated the Poppy Week on Wednesday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
The Vice President bought the Poppy flower at K1.5 million, emphasizing on the need for VELOM members to be well looked after, owing to the services they rendered to the country.
Chilima advised VELOM and the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) to consider working with pension planning firms in the country to ensure that those yet to retire should have everything concerning their retirement planned way ahead.
