A man with disability aged 65 has been sent to jail for raping a six-year-old girl.
Dedza First Grade Magistrate Court on 5 October sentenced the man identified as Makisi Wisikoti to nine years imprisonment with hard labour for sexually abusing the girl.
According to Inspector Namaona, the man committed the crime on 19th July at Jericho village in the district.
In court it was heard that on the material day the victim went to look for fruits with her friend aged five.
“On their way they met Wisikoti who was on his tricycle as he is a person with disability, he invited the kids to his house and took the minor name into the house and ordered the friend to remain outside,” Namaona said.
Later, a passerby found the girl the house and when he asked the young girl she replied that she was waiting for a friend.
As they were still talking to each other, they heard a cry from inside the house and after the passerby forced the door open they found Wisikoti raping the child.
The matter was therefore reported to the village head of the area who together with the victim reported the matter at Njonja Police.
When the victim was taken to hospital, medical report revealed that she was sexually abused.
Magistrate Ennete Banda upon finding him guilty said people of this calibre should not be speared. She added that disability is not inability hence she slapped him with a nine year jail term.
The convict comes from Jericho village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza district.
