The seven day ultimatum by registration workers for National Registration Bureau to hike their perks has witnessed donors who are the funders of the registration exercise currently underway in Malawi to adjust the salaries.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has disclosed that the registration supervisors and officers are to get additional K55,000 on their salaries.
The adjustment is to see officers getting K175,000 from K120,000 before tax per phase while supervisors are to get K205,000 from K150,000 per phase.
The workers have acknowledged receiving text messages from their employers on the salary increment.
But authorities have disclosed that the hike has not been influenced by the ultimatum but the hardwork demonstrated by the workers.
National Registration and Identification Communication officer Wisdom Chimgwede is on record to have said that the hike is a token of appreciation to the work done to date on the registration exercise.
“All stakeholders greatly value the dedication and hardwork of the registration personnel and hope that that the level of performance will be sustained until the end of the campaign for the benefit of the people of Malawi,” said Chimgwede earlier.
The national registration exercise which is being done in phases is being implemented by the National Registration Bureau.
