As the country is looking for more players in the health sector, SOS Children’s Villages has stopped offering medical services at its two centres in Lilongwe and Blantyre.
According to a statement issued by the organisation, the stoppage will allow SOS to focus on its core programs which are strengthening vulnerable families and providing alternative family care options for children who have completely lost care.
The organisation has however assured Malawians that it will still ensure that its children should be accessing good health care.
“We also wish to assure our key stakeholders and the general public that the closure of SOS Medical Centres will not in any way bar children under our support to access quality health care. The decision of closure of the centres was informed by a very careful and thorough assessment study whose report confirmed that there are other health players who are better placed to provide quality health services to children we support,” says the statement.
SOS Children’s Villages Malawi is an independent Non-Governmental Organisation which started its operations in Malawi on 1st March 1991.
At present, the organisation is directly supporting 499 people in the SOS families programmes and 8000 children and young people in family strengthening programmes which work with community based structures in 17 communities in Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Blantyre and Chikhwawa.
