Our sugar is produced locally and with a local supply of raw materials. How come now this scarcity. I can see that the current government doesn’t care for its citizens at all. They are failing their mandate to provide essential services to the people.

Bwana Damien Jhala..I did not say that the government produces sugar. Re-read my comment and understand it better. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure the availability of all basic human needs to every citizen of the country one of which is food in which sugar falls under. It not only Illovo that produces sugar in Malawi as far as I know. Did the machines also break down in the other sugar producing companies? It is again government’s responsibility through the Department of Trade and Industry to convince foreign investors to come and invest more such industries in the country if the current ones cannot meet the quantity and requirements.
