Victims of heavy rains in the country have expressed concern over the Department of Disaster Management Affairs’ (DoDMA) delay to assist them.
The victims said the department is taking too long to distribute relief items such as food to areas affected by storms.
In his response, commissioner for DoDMA Ben Botolo said the department is working tirelessly to curb the situation at hand.
He expressed that their intervention is based on availability of funds.
However, Botolo voiced out that the department is supporting people who were recently reported to have been affected by hunger.
He further said that the authorities are also distributing thatching papers to people whose houses were destroyed a few days ago.
Some of the districts which have been affected by heavy rains during the current rainy season include Mulanje, Dedza, Nkhotakota, Karonga and Mzimba.
