10 years in jail for stealing K5 million worth of items

The Midima Senior Resident Magistrate  court on Tuesday sentenced a 25 year-old man to 10 years imprisonment for stealing household items worth K5 million.

Deputy Public Relations Officer for Limbe Police Station Pedzesai Zembeneko identified the convict as 25 year-old Douglas Tewesa.

CourtAccording to Zembeneko, the robbery occurred during the night of 27 September when the thief together with two other thugs broke into a house at BCA Hill in Blantyre and stole the items.

“They stole a plasma TV screen, laptop, iPad, six cellphones and two blankets valued 5 million,” said Zembeneko.

Tewesa was arrested and he was answering charges of robbery with violence. Eventually he was found guilty of the charges and has now been sentenced to 10 years in jail with hard labour.

He hails from Mpunga in the area of Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu district.

His friends are 23 year-old Limbani Mafiti of village Ching’anda T/A Machinjiri who is on remand at Chichiri Prison  and Thomas Mataya of  village Kuntumanji T/A Nsamala in Balaka who is on court bail due to sickness.
