Motorbike taxi owner murdered in Nkhotakota

Communities surrounding Ntamanyanga village in Nkhotakota early on Sunday were awaken with shock and disbelief following the brutal murder of a motorbike taxi operator who was operating at Mwansambo trading centre.

Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Williams Kaponda said unknown robbers mercilessly murdered the motorcycle owner before going away with the motorbike.

Kaponda has identified the deceased as 25 year-old Sekelani Bemberezi who was found in pool of blood lying lifeless on the banks of Liudzi River after being repeatedly stabbed with a knife.

“The deceased was last seen in the afternoon of Saturday October 22, riding his Rico motorbike with a customer and was found dead the following morning with knife wounds,” Kaponda said.

When police visited the scene, they discovered that Bemberezi was repeatedly stabbed and the knife used was also found at the scene of the murder.

Postmortem conducted by Mwansambo health centre medical personnel established that death was due to loss of blood.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to bring to book the perpetrators. The law enforcers have also urged the general public to report any information in relation to the matter.

The deceased hailed from Mbondoma village, Traditional Authority Kasakula in Ntchisi district.
