Angry communities at Mapelera in Chikwawa took the law into their hands by burning to ashes a man who they suspected of intending to steal a motor bike from a motor bike taxi driver.
Police in the district have confirmed the death of unidentified man who was killed barely few days after a similar incident also occurred at dembo area in the district where communities burnt to death a man on grounds that he gruesomely killed a 42 year old woman.
Acting Chikwawa District Police spokesperson Sub Inspector Mark Munama,confided in Malawi24 that the burned man attacked the motor bike driver with an aim of stealing the motor bike but after the owner of the bike screamed for help, surrounding communities came in to assist him.
According to Inspector Munama,it is said the people started beating up the suspect until he fainted where they then decided to burn him.
As particulars of the deceased are yet to be identified,police in Chikwawa have faulted the communities at Mapelera for chasing them away with stones and branches of trees soon after they tried to rescue the suspected thief.
