Contrary to what one of the daily papers published on Thursday, Beta Television has confirmed that they will beam the Blantyre derby on Saturday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium.

On Thursday, there was an article in one of Malawi’s daily papers indicating that the match between Mighty Wanderers and Big Bullets will not be beamed live by the official broadcasters due to financial squabbles.

However, the Television’s Station Director Theuns Bester refuted the claims saying all is set for the TV to beam the derby live. He also revealed that his television has lost about K6 million from prospective sponsors because of what was published on Thursday.

“We are ready to beam the match live on Saturday. It’s a very big match and we cannot afford to miss it. It was very unfortunate that a certain daily paper published an article indicating that our television will not beam the match live and die to that story, we have lost K6 million from prospective sponsors. Yes we are having some financial problems but we are trying and things will get back to normal,” he told Malawi24.

Beta Television won the exclusive rights to beam local matches for the next three seasons but they have been struggling to find sponsors for the matches.
